In this blog, I will go over how I prepared for my PL-300 certification exams and share insights from my experience.
If I’m being completely honest, this blog has been a long time coming.

Preparation
To be honest, if you use Power BI on a daily basis, you probably have a solid foundation and can concentrate on filling in the gaps. Reading through the skills outline will assist you in determining where to concentrate your exam preparation.

When it comes to exams, it is always a good idea to understand the skills being measured as well as the question types. As a result, I went through the free Microsoft Learn Online Data Analyst path, which thoroughly covers exam topics.
Put Your Learning Strategy Into Action
After you’ve assessed your starting point and developed a learning strategy, it’s time to break it down and work through it. The most important thing you can do is to maintain your learning consistency. Because there are so many skills to assess (over 80!),
Exam Schedule
On exam day, schedule a two-hour block because you will check-in approximately 20 minutes before the exam and have 100 minutes to complete it. After you’ve scheduled the exam, you can start planning the logistics and familiarising yourself with the rules. If you choose the virtual option, for example, you must present a photo ID and take the exam in a quiet room.

Renewal
Role-based certifications such as the PL-300 expire every year. Instead of retaking exams, you can renew them by simply passing a free, unproctored online renewal assessment on Microsoft Learn.
They are shorter than the original exams. This renewal exam will last 45 minutes and will consist of approximately 25 questions. Things are subject to change.
You will be notified of the renewal exam 180 days before your certificate expires. Simply clicking the link in your email took you to a page where you could choose to retake the exam.
What happens if your renewal assessment fails?
According to Microsoft, “You may retake the test as many times as necessary. Simply ensure that you pass before your certification expires. If you do not pass the first time, you may retake the exam. But after the second try, you’ll need to wait at least 24 hours before your next attempt”.
